How does the knight move in chess?

The knight moves in an L: two squares in a straight line, then one square to the side. It is the only piece that jumps over others.

Pieces it jumps over are not affected. It takes only the piece on the square where it lands.

A knight always lands on the opposite colour to the one it started on. It is worth about 3 pawns, and it is strongest near the centre, where it reaches up to 8 squares.
